The Inaugural Post

So here we are again, on the apex of another adventure. This time, something a little bit less grand. New York. But not Manhattan. Syracuse University, at the Newhouse School of Journalism. One of the most prestigious journalism programs in the nation. And one that not many of my friends or family have heard of. And for a number who are reading this blog, you will be surprised that I am not going to be living in New York City. I will be closer to Canada than Manhattan. Which I don't mind, having never been to Toronto.

As of now, the suitcases are packed, the clothes to be worn on the 10 hour flight is laid out, and I am sitting here nervous and musing about what to write for my next blog adventure. Whether or not this installment will be as eventful and varied as the European edition remains to be seen.

But here we are, getting ready to leave home again. During one of my last days at UCLA, I ran into a friend I had not hung out with since before I left for Europe. When I told him about my post-graduate plans (the topic of choice during those last few weeks before graduation), he responded with a, "you always seem to be leaving."

Then looking back through all of my past experiences, from the number of activities I had participated in while at UCLA, to Europe, to all of the people I have met and have not kept in contact with, there had always been an expiration date, a time when it would all come to an end.

And considering that I like to consider myself as someone who strives for stability and to micro-manage every aspect of her life, I seem to fly in and out of activities, location, and people quite often. Strange how what you want is not always what you get.

As for this blog, it will serve the purpose of my Europe blog, to keep my friends and family in California posted about my life here and to also sharpen my writing. Yet unlike Europe, this blog does not seem to have an expiration date. If anything, in front is just one big open space and like most things, I will try to fill that emptiness and confusion with words.

Let's hoping that I succeed.

To close, here is a bit of music, from the film "Kiki's Delivery Service," about a young girl who is - like me - leaving home for training. Sadly, writing is a little less glamorous than learning how to fly.
